CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif., Nov. 30 (KNN) — A woman who exited her vehicle after pulling off the roadway, ran into traffic and was fatally struck by a car Wednesday evening in California City, according to authorities.

California City Police Department officers were dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision at 6:26 p.m. on California City Boulevard near Deep Well Street. Officers arrived a short time later and found a female, identified as California City resident Leah Makiah Phillips, 27, lying on the eastbound dirt shoulder of California City Boulevard, according to California City PD’s press release of the incident.
Lifesaving measures were attempted to save Leah’s life, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene, stated the release.
According to the California City PD, the investigation revealed that Leah had been the driver of a vehicle heading eastbound on California City Boulevard, when for unknown reasons, she pulled over her vehicle to the dirt shoulder of the roadway, exited her vehicle and proceeded to run into vehicular traffic. Leah was then struck by a 2019 Toyota Avalon driven by a 73-year-old driver from Mojave who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
“Currently, speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this collision,” said the California City PD in the news release.
