Driver Asleep in Vehicle on 170 Freeway Arrested for DUI

North Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA: A motorist was found asleep in the fast lane of the Northbound 170 Freeway around 3:02 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, and taken into custody for DUI.

California Highway Patrol West Valley Division officers had closed the Northbound 170 at Magnolia Boulevard for an auto fire that occurred at 1:53 a.m.

Traffic had backed up to the 101 / 170 northbound split. When CHP officers cleared that incident, a sleeping man in a silver sedan was found in the #1 lane.

Multiple near misses can be seen on Key News Network video while CHP was responding to the location. CHP officers re-responded to the location and briefly shut down the Northbound 170 at the 101 Freeway to remove the man and his vehicle from the freeway.

After a field sobriety test, CHP officers determined the driver was impaired and placed him into custody.
