Canyon Country, Los Angeles County, CA: One person was killed in a traffic collision that involved a fire hydrant, then crossing over lanes of traffic in the Canyon Country neighborhood of the city of Santa Clarita on Friday evening, July 22, 2022.

A driver of a Ford Explorer jumped the center divider after crashing into and shearing a hydrant, crossed over to westbound lanes of traffic and then came to a stop next to a bus stop east of Shangri-La Drive and Soledad Canyon Road.

Per witnesses, the collision occurred around 5:34 p.m. and when the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived, they performed CPR and then pronounced the driver deceased.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from Newhall had blocked off the intersection during rush hour.

No other injuries were reported.
