Shadow Hills, Los Angeles, CA: A hit-and-run collision involving a hydrant left a muddy mess on a street in a San Fernando Valley neighborhood within the city of Los Angeles late Tuesday night.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a call of a sheared hydrant around 11:36 p.m., Apr. 25, on the 9700 block of Orcas Avenue in Shadow Hills.
Firefighters arrived to find gushing water from the sidewalk area in front of a home. It took 20 minutes for firefighters to turn off the sheared hydrant.
Neighbors reported a car hit the hydrant and took off.
The sheared hydrant left a gaping hole, about five to seven feet deep, due to high pressure. Water and mud spread to the street.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was notified of the incident.
