The pursuit began at approximately 11:24 p.m. Wednesday, near the intersection of West 8th Street and South New Hampshire Avenue. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department Olympic Division broadcast that they were in pursuit of a man with a gun traveling at a high rate of speed attempting to evade them.

An LAPD airship arrived overhead and tracked the vehicle at over 100 mph to the 10 Freeway and Eastern where the suspect exited the freeway. The suspect then re-entered the freeway and continued north into Hollywood where he then exited the 101 at Gower.

The suspect then ran from his red compact vehicle and entered a tent on Gower under the freeway overpass. Officers witnessed the armed suspect enter the tent and a standoff began at approximately 12:00 a.m. Thursday.

Officers attempted multiple call outs from their vehicles using their PA systems with no response from the suspect. A man in a baseball hat was observed near the tents, but this was not the suspect. At approximately 1:15 a.m., officers made a decision to “tactically disengage.”

Officers then broke down the perimeter and left the armed suspect barricaded in the tent.

It is unknown if anyone was in the tent when the suspect entered. The suspect is described as a bald male Hispanic with tattoos on his hands.
