Big Rig Burns on Side of 101 Freeway

Studio City, Los Angeles, CA: Fire erupted inside a big rig traveling on the 101 Freeway Saturday evening in the Studio City area of the San Fernando Valley.

California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Fire Department were called around 6:12 p.m., Mar. 18, to a big rig fire on the eastbound 101 Freeway at Woodman.

CHP blocked off all lanes of traffic for the fire department to extinguish the flames.

The driver of the big rig mentioned to Key News Network, off camera, that the trailer was empty and he had traveled from Texas to Ventura County and dropped off the load. He said it was an electrical issue that caused the fire.

The driver noticed smoke and fire coming from the dashboard and was able to grab his wallet and cellphone before exiting the vehicle.

No injuries were reported.
