Around 5:10 p.m. Monday, July 4, the Los Angeles City Fire Department alongside Burbank Fire Department responded to a brush fire caused by fireworks.

Residents of the community came together and used buckets of water to help extinguish some of the flames before the fire department arrived to the 8000 block of Via Verona.

An unidentified resident told Key News Network on camera that he was on his patio, heard fireworks go off, saw some kids, and suddenly a neighbor came running by yelling “fire!” – “I thought he was kidding,” said the resident.

When the fire departments arrived, they contained the fire to a 100′ x 50′ spot along a small hillside. LAFD is investigating.
