Driver Rescued from Bottom of Hillside After Crashing into Power Pole

Newhall, Los Angeles County, CA: A driver was rescued by firefighters after crashing into a power pole and landing at the bottom of a hillside early Sunday morning, July 31, 2022.

Sheriff’s deputies, AMR ambulance, Los Angeles County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol responded to a traffic collision reported at 12:42 a.m. on northbound Sierra Highway and north of Placerita Canyon in Newhall.

The driver of an SUV collided with a wooden pole with live wires on the ground and landed approximately 200 feet down off the roadway. Sheriff’s deputies blocked off the road for oncoming vehicles and CHP shut down the southbound off-ramp at Placerita.

The driver was transported up the hillside in a rescue basket by LACoFD around 2:10 a.m., carried to the top of the off-ramp and then transported to the hospital by AMR ambulance in unknown condition.

Speed may be a factor in the collision which is under investigation.
