Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. John Matassa was interviewed at the scene of the incident and described how the fatal traffic collision occurred.

According to Matassa, a vehicle came out of the Vallarta supermarket parking lot eastbound to the southbound direction at which time there was a silver Mustang that was also traveling at a high rate of speed southbound Foothill Boulevard. The Mustang swerved to avoid the vehicle coming out from the market and went into the northbound lane on Foothill Boulevard, crashing head-on with a silver Toyota truck.

As a result of the collision, the person who was driving the Ford Mustang was pronounced deceased, and the driver of the Toyota truck is currently in the hospital receiving medical treatment, said Matassa.

According to Matassa, the vehicle that caused the collision, which is believed to be possibly a light-colored Toyota Prius, remains at large.

The fatal traffic collision is under investigation.
