Los Feliz, Los Angeles, CA: A suspect was in custody at approximately 10:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, after an armed robbery attempt at the “John Sowden House” on the 5100 block of Franklin Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Hollywood in Los Angeles.

The suspect, who was initially seen on camera, was found barricaded and armed in a garage on the property. The suspect was barricaded until surrendering to Los Angeles Police Department Northeast division officers after an hours long standoff.
The John Sowden House is listed as a historic national building and is a landmark Hollywood estate. It was designed in 1926 by architect Lloyd Wright. The house is noted for its use of ornamental textile blocks and striking facade. The original owner, John Sowden, was a painter and photographer who hired his friend, Lloyd Wright (eldest son of Frank Lloyd Wright) to build his home on Franklin Avenue in Los Feliz. The home has hosted everything from photoshoots and non-profit events to films and TV shows, according to The Sowden House website.
