Mother, Daughter Fatally Shot in Compton; Homicide Investigation Underway

COMPTON, Calif., Apr. 3 (KNN) — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that resulted in the deaths of two related Black female adults.

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, near the intersection of West Caldwell Street and South Central Avenue in Compton.

According to the LASD’s Information Bureau (SIB), on Wednesday morning, arriving deputies located one adult female in the street on the west side of the intersection suffering from gunshot wounds. A second adult female was located inside a vehicle on the east side of the intersection, also suffering from gunshot wounds.

During the investigation so far, investigators have learned that the victims were in their vehicle on Caldwell Street, stopped at a traffic light, when a car pulled alongside. Investigators believe an occupant in the other vehicle opened fire on the victims. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene southbound on Central Avenue.

According to the SIB, the victims are a 45-year-old mother and her 22-year-old daughter. Their identities will not be released until their next of kin is notified of their deaths.

The investigation is ongoing. There is no additional information at this time.
