CORONA, Calif., Dec. 29 (KNN) — A shooting of a murder suspect by a deputy in an unincorporated area of the city of Corona is under investigation.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 13400 block of Barker Lane in Home Gardens, an unincorporated area of Corona.
Deputies from the Lake Matthews Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, they found a man lying on the ground outside a home dead from a gunshot wound, according to authorities.
The deputies learned that the suspected gunman may have been hiding inside the adjacent home, which was believed to be where the shooting took place. Deputies entered the home and began searching for the suspect when some type of encounter ensued and the suspect was shot by a deputy. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, according to authorities.
As of 11:00 p.m., deputies along with the help of Cal Fire were observed cutting into some type of safe or filing cabinet in the front yard of the home. It was unclear what investigators were searching for inside.
Investigators also had a mobile command post set up on Indiana Avenue. They were on scene for some time investigating the deputy-involved shooting as well as the homicide incident.
The area was closed off at Indiana Avenue at Grant Street in both directions along with Barker Lane at Wagoner Lane also closed in both directions.
