Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on 710 Freeway in South Gate

South Gate, Los Angeles County, CA: A pedestrian was struck and killed on the southbound 710 Freeway early Thursday morning, prompting a full freeway closure.

California Highway Patrol East Los Angeles officers responded to multiple reports of a multi-vehicle traffic collision on the southbound I-710 Freeway at Imperial Highway shortly after 1:10 a.m., June 1.

Additional reports indicated that a pedestrian may have exited their vehicle and was struck by a car. The pedestrian was down in lanes, unconscious and not breathing when a private EMT ambulance rolled up.

EMTs began CPR on the victim until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, who immediately declared the victim deceased at the scene.

CHP East L.A. officers will be investigating the incident long term until further notice.

No other patients involved in the traffic collision required medical transport to a hospital.
