Pedestrian Fatally Struck on 5 Freeway

Los Feliz, Los Angeles, CA: A person on the 5 Freeway HOV lane was struck and killed Wednesday morning prompting closure of two lanes.

At approximately 6:15 a.m. May 18, California Highway Patrol officers received 911 calls regarding a possible pedestrian hit by a vehicle on the 5 South Freeway just north of the Los Feliz Boulevard exit in the greater Hollywood area of Los Angeles.

Upon arrival, CHP officers discovered a person down in the HOV lane unresponsive. Firefighters responded to the scene shortly thereafter. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

CHP officers blocked the #1 and #2 lanes to allow for investigation of the incident. A SigAlert was issued for approximately an hour.

It is not known at this time what the pedestrian was doing on the freeway. A Los Angeles Coroner Investigator was on location processing the scene.

This incident remains under investigation.
