Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, CA: One of two pedestrians running across the I-5 Freeway was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday morning.
The incident was reported at 2:34 a.m., June 7, on the northbound I-5 at the Calzona Street exit in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol East Los Angeles office responded to the scene.
There was also a two-vehicle traffic collision on the southbound I-5 at the same location. It is unknown at this time if the southbound incident was related to the pedestrian who continued to run across the freeway.
The person who struck the pedestrian called and reported that the pedestrian was down in lanes.
CHP located the victim down in the number 4 lane unconscious, not breathing and determined to be deceased at scene.
CHP requested Caltrans for a hard closure of the number 2,3,4, and 5 lanes while crews conducted their investigation.
