A man was located lying on the sidewalk in the midst of a lewd act with a gun in a backpack nearby over the 110 Freeway on the south side of 52nd Place in the South Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Officers deployed a 40mm less lethal round, along with a bean bag shotgun. The suspect reached for the pistol multiple times but never pulled it from the backpack.

Officers moved in and detained the suspect without further incident. Off camera, an LAPD Sergeant confirmed that a “ghost gun” and multiple magazines of ammunition were also recovered at the scene.

A second man was taken into custody who was living in a tent next to the suspect, but was subsequently released.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the location and transported the suspect to a local area hospital suffering from blunt force impacts from the less lethal weapons.
