Bakersfield, Kern County, CA: Shortly after 11:00 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 28, a gray Toyota Camry failed to pull over for police prompting a pursuit. The vehicle entered eastbound Highway 178 reaching speeds of 120 mph, then exited the Oswell Street off-ramp and crashed into a tree in the center median. One subject ran south from the vehicle and was caught at Mall View Road and Oswell Street in the city of Bakersfield.

One of the other two suspects who stayed at the vehicle had a gunshot wound to the leg. It is unclear at this time how they were shot in the vehicle. The Bakersfield Police Department Watch Commander could only confirm the gunshot wound was not a result of any officer’s actions. It appears to have been an accidental discharge inside the vehicle.
The suspect was transported by Hall Ambulance to an area hospital with minor to moderate injury to the lower right leg.
