South Gate, Los Angeles County, CA: Bell Gardens Police detectives were at the scene of a collision involving a stolen vehicle when an officer-involved shooting occurred. South Gate Police Department received a call of a traffic collision involving an unmarked police unit at Firestone Boulevard and EL Paseo around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Bell Gardens Police detectives attempted to stop a reported stolen vehicle out of Bellflower, and when the driver refused to stop, a vehicle pursuit was initiated, according to South Gate PD.

The stolen vehicle crashed into a fence in the 5900 block of Firestone Boulevard in the city of South Gate. After the crash, the driver used the stolen vehicle to attempt to run over the detectives and an officer-involved shooting occurred, said South Gate PD.

No injuries were reported to the suspects or officers.

South Gate PD reported that two suspects were taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft auto, and arrest warrants. The suspects are being held at South Gate Jail.
