Suspect Arrested for Murder of José Velasquez

Ventura County, CA: The person responsible for the disapearance and murder of 35-year-old José Velasquez has been arrested by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and identified as 37-year-old Rotherie Foster, 37, from Camarillo, according to a VCSO news release on Friday, Jan. 13.

Velasquez was reported missing to authorities by family and friends at the end of July, 2022.

The Sheriff’s Major Crime Bureau began investigating Velasquez’s disappearance, suspecting foul play was involved, according to VCSO.

The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit supported efforts of investigators in searching remote areas and distributing flyers seeking the public’s help in locating Velasquez.

At the beginning of October, 2022, Velasquez’s remains were discovered by hikers in the Santa Monica Mountains within Los Angeles County, reported the sheriff’s office. Velasquez’s death was determined to be a homicide by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Major Crimes detectives identified Foster as the suspect and uncovered further evidence with the assistance of the Crime Analysis Unit linking Foster to the murder of Velasquez, according to VCSO.

Foster was arrested and charged with the murder of José Velasquez and is in custody at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $2,000,000, stated VCSO in the news release.
