Suspect Barricades After Shooting Arcadia Officer, Other Victims Wounded

Arcadia, Los Angeles County, CA: An Arcadia Police officer and other victims were struck by gunfire when a suspect began shooting from a home in the city of Arcadia on Wednesday evening, Aug. 10, prompting a standoff and ending with the suspect in custody.

The incident was reported on the 2500 block of Greenfield Avenue in the city of Arcadia, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff”s Department who are assisting Arcadia Police Department in the investigation. LASD had no further information to report.

At 11:30 p.m., a press conference was held by Lt. Brett Bourgeous, Arcadia PD, with preliminary information regarding the hours-long incident. Bourgeous said the incident started at roughly 5:40 p.m. when officers responded to the location for a disturbance possibly involving a firearm. When officers arrived, the suspect started shooting at them from inside the house. At that point, an officer was struck and several civilians were also struck by gunfire which started a standoff.

Bourgeous said that shortly before 10:45 p.m., the suspect exited the residence and surrendered to Special Enforcement Bureau personnel and was arrested without incident.

“He did have an injury to his leg which appears consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound … the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment related to that wound,” said Bourgeous.

Two other people who suffered gunshot wounds were reported to be in stable condition. No fatalities were reported. There was no information regarding the status of the officer.

The name of the suspect has not been released a this time.

According to Bourgeous, the officer who was shot was with the Arcadia Police Department for about six months, and a police officer for three years. He was previously with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation is ongoing.
