Just before midnight, Sept. 29, 911 dispatchers received a call from remote security stating the Walgreens on the 27100 block of 172nd Avenue Southeast had a burglary in progress and they were watching the suspect through security cameras.

Covington Officers responded to the burglary and with the help of an unincorporated King County Sheriff’s deputy, they were able to trap the suspect inside the store and waited for a K-9 Unit and more assistance, according to information from the city of Covington on social media.

The responding authorities tried to call the suspect out, but no response prompted a search inside for the suspect. The suspect was found to be hiding on the roof where he tried to appear unresponsive.

Puget Sound Fire Department crews responded with ladder trucks and the high angle ropes team to remove the suspect from the roof. He was placed in a basket, lowered down to the ground and placed into custody. According to the city of Covington, the suspect was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The suspect was identified by his fingerprints and booked for burglary.
