SWAT Surrounds Barricaded Suspect in Vehicle with Gun

Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles, CA: A man was barricaded with a firearm in his vehicle after a short slow speed pursuit with Los Angeles Police Department units on Thursday morning in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The pursuit, which started in Downtown Los Angeles at approximately 1:45 a.m., Mar. 24, led officers to the 2100 block of North Broadway where LAPD Central Division officers successfully employed a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle bringing the pursuit to a halt.

As officers approached the vehicle, a weapon was seen in the suspect’s possession. Officers immediately withdrew to cover, and requested SWAT to the location. At the time of this report (3:33 a.m.), the suspect was still barricaded in the vehicle. Three SWAT armored vehicles were at the location surrounding the vehicle.

California Highway Patrol closed both north and south exits on the I-5 Freeway while officers were working to negotiate with the suspect to surrender. The area was closed approximately three blocks in all directions.

LAPD Media Relations told Key News Network that the barricade incident ended around 5:09 a.m., but the time the suspect was taken into custody was unavailable.

The incident is currently under investigation by LAPD. There are no further details at this time.
