Griffith Park, Los Angeles, CA: A tow truck driver was struck and killed late Wednesday night while responding to a vehicle on the 5 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol officers and the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call just after 11 p.m., May 31, for a traffic collision involving a pedestrian on the southbound 5 Freeway at Zoo Drive in the Griffith Park area of Los Angeles.
Upon arrival, CHP reported one patient lying on the freeway, unresponsive. Fire department personnel responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
A tow truck was on the freeway responding to a vehicle that was located near the right shoulder when the tow truck driver was struck by a passing vehicle traveling southbound on the freeway.
The vehicle that struck the tow truck driver pulled over and remained on scene.
The SB 5 Freeway was closed for an unknown duration of time while CHP conducted their investigation.
