Downey police officers and firefighters were dispatched to a reported two-vehicle traffic collision with possible parties trapped shortly before midnight Sunday on Downey Avenue and Imperial Highway in the city of Downey.

Arriving officers located one vehicle with head-on collision damage, and the other vehicle on its side up against a damaged retaining wall from the crash. When firefighters arrived, they reported no one trapped inside either vehicle.

Amazingly, the driver of the damaged vehicle against the wall was able to self-extricate. It was unclear if he was transported to a hospital for medical care.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was reportedly uninjured.

It was not known at the time of this report if there were any passengers in either vehicle.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
