North Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA: Los Angeles Police Department North Hollywood and Devonshire area detectives announced in a press release on Mar. 10, that they have arrested a prolific commercial burglary suspect on Mar. 1, 2022. The suspect, identified as Rueben Virgil Newhouse, 62, is believed to be responsible for over 70 commercial burglaries in the San Fernando Valley since October 2020. The crime spree lasted over 1.5 years before Newhouse was apprehended.

Video shared by LAPD shows views from security cameras from various locations of the suspect breaking in, usually smashing glass front doors or windows.
According to LAPD, Newhouse targeted small businesses during early morning hours between 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. Newhouse targeted cash registers for money. He always wore black color type boots, mask and gloves.
A search warrant was served at Newhouse’s apartment and detectives recovered several burglary tools and other items taken from various business, reported LAPD.
San Fernando District Attorney’s Office filed a total of 23 second degree burglary charges against Newhouse with a set bail amount of $505,000.00 dollars and is currently in custody at Los Angeles County Jail. Additional burglary cases will be filed and reviewed by the District Attorney’s office, according to LAPD.
LAPD said the estimated loss to small business owners struggling through the COVID pandemic exceeded over $200,000 dollars in monetary and property damage.
