Water Gushes Skyward After Vehicle Crashes into Hydrant

Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles County, CA: Santa Fe Springs Fire Department and Whittier Police Department responded to the 12300 block of Bell Ranch Drive in the city of Santa Fe Springs around 12:36 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, for a sheared hydrant.

Firefighters and officers arrived and reported a solo vehicle collision into a tree that also involved a fire hydrant causing water to shoot at least 50 feet into the air, flooding the street and interior of the crashed car.

It is unknown if anyone was hospitalized. There were no reported injuries to first responders.

Firefighters were able to turn off the water within minutes.

Speed may have been a factor, but Whittier PD is investigating the cause of the crash.
