Wrong-Way Driver Traffic Collision Leaves 1 Dead in West Covina

WEST COVINA, Calif., Feb. 22 (KNN) — One person was killed in a traffic collision involving a wrong-way driver in West Covina early Friday morning.

The fatal collision occurred around 12:16 a.m. in the 1700 block of West Puente Avenue.

Once West Covina Fire Department personnel and police officers arrived on the scene, they located two vehicles with multiple people trapped inside both cars. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the West Covina PD, the preliminary investigation revealed that the adult male driver of a black Toyota sedan was driving in the opposite lane of travel when it collided head-on with a white Honda sedan with four occupants.

Fire department personnel pronounced a male deceased at the scene. He was a rear passenger inside the Honda, said the West Covina PD in a statement.

Two adult males and one adult female were transported to nearby hospitals. According to the West Covina PD, one occupant is listed in critical condition, one is in stable condition and one was treated and released from the hospital.

The driver of the Toyota sedan was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

There is no further information from authorities at this time.
