Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to the reported fire around 11:49 a.m. on the 7500 block of North Whitsett Avenue.

Firefighters arrived at the location and found a two-story garden-style apartment building with one unit on the first floor fully involved in flames. LAFD said a search of the premise was hampered by excessive personal storage inside the apartment.

LAFD PIO Brian Humphrey reported the first arriving 30 LAFD firefighters took just 18 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish heavy fire within one first floor apartment in the 4,936 square-foot eight unit apartment building. The building, constructed in 1958, was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers.

One person was taken into custody at the scene for yet unconfirmed circumstances by Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Division officers, LAFD reported.

At one point, the individual was seen handcuffed, bent over their knees with head on sidewalk, across from the burning apartment unit.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under active investigation by LAFD investigators.
