Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on April 4, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop an ATV 4-wheeler in the area of Columbus Street and River Boulevard. The ATV, occupied by a female and a male, led deputies on a short pursuit through the neighborhood south of Bakersfield College.

Kern County Sheriff’s deputies canceled the pursuit twice when the ATV was driving the wrong way into traffic. The second time, the ATV turned eastbound onto Columbus Street in the westbound lanes from Saint Marys Street. The ATV ran the intersection of Mount Vernon and was hit on the right side by a United Cab Company taxi traveling northbound, sending the two suspects flying off the ATV.

The male landed in the parking lot and the female on the sidewalk of the northeast corner of the intersection. The male and female suspects were transported with unknown injuries to a local area hospital by ambulance. The driver of the taxi was also transported to a local area hospital in unknown condition. One passenger in the taxi appeared to be uninjured.
