The collision occurred around 7:10 a.m. Thursday in the 8900 block of North Winnetka Avenue at the Nordhoff Street intersection.

Detective Danny Martinez with the Los Angeles Police Department said the preliminary investigation into the collision indicates that a black vehicle was stopped at a red light and then for some unknown reason, the vehicle entered the intersection. A Dodge Charger traveling northbound on Winnetka had the green light and broadsided the black vehicle. As a result of the collision, a dark blue Ford SUV was struck.

The drivers of the Dodge and Ford vehicles complained of pain and were transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital. The patients were in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the black vehicle died at the scene as a result of the collision, said Martinez.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
