Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, CA: A rubbish fire fueled by winds spread to homes and brush by the 101 Freeway early Wednesday morning, May 11, 2022.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a rubbish fire around 2:50 a.m. on the 14200 block of Hortense Street in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley. Residents called the fire department back and said there were embers landing on their homes.
When units arrived at the location, they found a large homeless encampment fire spreading to brush on the side of the 101 Freeway near Van Nuys exit.
Embers were seen traveling across the street landing on the rooftops of multiple homes and resident’s gardens. Residents were seen with garden hoses trying to extinguish small spot fires.
No injuries were reported.
