Long Beach, Los Angeles County, CA: An incident with an armed man on a rooftop came to a fatal end when he was found unresponsive after an officer-involved shooting during the hours-long standoff late Saturday morning.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to a reported man with a gun call around 11:20 a.m.on the 1000 east block of 17th Street in the city of Long Beach. Officers arrived to find a man with a gun that was held up on a two-story rooftop.
Officers gave commands to the suspect, but he did not comply. The suspect was on the rooftop holding, and continuously pointing the firearm at officers. Officers then began using non-lethal rounds to disarm the suspect and to get him off the roof in which an officer-involved shooting took place.
The man was hit with countless rounds of rubber bullets, but still did not comply. Long Beach Police requested their SWAT (Special Weapons & Tactics) officers to the scene.
SWAT officers arrived to the location and proceeded with a tactical plan to get the suspect off the roof. As hours passed, officers moved in as they saw that the suspect was no longer moving on the rooftop and was laying on his back with the gun on his side.
SWAT officers reached the suspect who then appeared to be unresponsive. CPR was administered, however, the suspect did not respond and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police continued to cordon off nearby areas to gather more evidence at the scene. The Coroner was on the scene assisting.
The investigation is ongoing.
