Lakewood, Los Angeles County, CA: A male wanted for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon escaped from a hospital early Tuesday morning, prompting a large search for the prisoner in the city of Lakewood.

Los Angeles County Lakewood deputies put out the call for help around midnight in regards to a male wearing L.A. County Jail attire who escaped from their custody and ran into a nearby neighborhood.

The suspect was still reported to be handcuffed behind his back when he fled the hospital.

Sheriff’s deputies established a large containment around the neighborhood immediately to the east of the hospital as a Sheriff’s helicopter searched from overhead.

As of 2:30 a.m., the suspect still remained outstanding.

Residents who observe anything suspicious in the area of South Street and Hayter Avenue are urged to contact the sheriff’s department immediately.
