Firefighters Discover Body After Knockdown of Fiery Vehicle Crash into Liquor Store

Vermont Square, Los Angeles, CA: A fiery vehicle crash into a liquor store ignited the structure leaving the store severely damaged and firefighters reporting the discovery of a body in the vehicle while overhauling the fire after knockdown early Sunday morning.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a call just after 4:00 a.m., Nov. 27, for a vehicle fire in front of the liquor store on the 1400 block of West 54th Street in the Vermont Square neighborhood within South Los Angeles.

While crews were en route, they received additional information that an SUV had crashed into the liquor store and was now on fire.

The fire spread to the attic of the store and was stopped by crews before causing further damage.

An occupant of the SUV at the time of the reported incident, was transported to the hospital in unknown condition, however, the fire department updated the incident to a structure fire fatality when firefighters overhauling the fire after knockdown located a deceased person inside the vehicle.

LAFD Arson investigators and the Los Angeles Police Department responded and stated in a preliminary report that the victim was a 15-year-old male passenger and one additional person in the vehicle safely exited prior to the arrival of LAFD, according to the fire department.

No further details will be released while the incident is under investigation, according to LAFD.
