VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 (KNN) — A vehicle struck a hydrant overnight and fled the scene as water gushed skyward and flooded a street in a San Fernando Valley neighborhood.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a traffic collision shortly after 1 a.m. with city property involved on the 15700 block of Vanowen Street in Van Nuys.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered a hydrant shooting water over 80 feet high. Falling water from the gushing geyser repeatedly pounded parked vehicles and was quickly flooding the street.
LAFD crews managed to shut down the water.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the crash.
