Los Angeles, CA: A hit-and-run driver struck two bicyclists, one fatally, after the vehicle was involved in a bizarre incident.

On April 26, 2022, around 3:20 a.m., a vehicle was parked on the north curb of Olympic Boulevard. As the vehicle pulled away from the curb and traveled west on Olympic Boulevard, a victim of an unrelated “grand theft auto” jumped onto the hood of the vehicle, believing the driver was related to the theft of his vehicle, according to LAPD.

Police said the vehicle continued west on Olympic Boulevard with the victim still on the hood. The victim then fell off the hood onto the street. The vehicle continued west on Olympic Boulevard east of Mariposa Avenue when it collided with two bicyclists that were traveling westbound. The driver failed to stop, fleeing westbound on Olympic Boulevard.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and provided immediate medical attention to both victims. One bicyclist sustained minor injuries, and the other bicyclist succumbed to injuries suffered from the collision and was pronounced deceased at scene, according to LAPD.

Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

The vehicle is described as a white Jeep Cherokee, according to LAPD.

The deceased male victim has been identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner as 39-year-old Leonidas Accip Serech from Los Angeles.
