Home Invasion Suspect Fatally Shot by Resident in Granada Hills

GRANADA HILLS, LOS ANGELES, Dec. 2 (KNN) — Armed home invasion suspects attempted to rob a home in the Granada Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles early Saturday morning resulting in a homeowner shooting and fatally wounding one of the suspects.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. in the 11400 block of Swinton Avenue. Preliminary information from authorities indicates that three suspects, confirmed by the LAPD Saturday evening, entered the home armed with rifles.

The homeowner, who was the victim, told arriving officers that he was inside his residence when the unknown suspects broke into his home. The victim described the suspects as three males all wearing dark clothing, hoodies and masks.

“In fear for his life, the victim retrieved a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the suspects, striking one of them,” stated the LAPD in a news release of the incident. The victim then chased the remaining two suspects out of the house who fled the scene without the car they had arrived in – a black BMW sedan.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect who was struck by gunfire deceased at the scene, according to the LAPD.

The Operations Valley Bureau Homicide detectives arrived at the location and conducted a preliminary investigation. The victim was interviewed at Devonshire Community Police Station and released, stated the LAPD

Los Angeles County Coroner’s investigators arrived at the scene to examine the decedent who had suffered two gunshot wounds and was in possession of the victim’s property, reported the LAPD in the news release.

Detectives are withholding the decedent’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
