North Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA: An officer-involved shooting occurred Thursday evening, July 21, prompting a large police response when the suspect ran into a home in the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley.

A standoff ensued when the suspect barricaded inside a home on the 7800 block of Radford Avenue. Multiple police units, along with SWAT, responded to the location where communication was still ongoing with the suspect by phone as of 10:30 p.m.
Sgt. Bruce Borihah, Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Los Angeles Police Department who was updating the news media at the scene, said the incident began around 7:00 p.m. when LAPD Foothill Division gang officers were patrolling in the area of the 7000 block of Radford Avenue when they saw a known gang member exit a car with what the officers believed to be a handgun. Officers attempted a stop, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.
It is unknown at this time if the suspect was struck by gunfire, but he ran into a home and barricaded himself, according to Borihah. Officers immediately established containment and called SWAT. The SWAT negotiation team is in the process of talking with the suspect and attempting to get him to comply and have this come to a peaceful ending, said Borihah.
A weapon was observed at the scene but investigators have not had the opportunity to inspect it, said Borihah. “This is an ongoing tactical operation.”
Borihah stated this was preliminary information and that they were very early in the investigation to give further details.
No officers were injured or occupants of the home, reported Borihah.
According to LAPD Media Relations on Friday, July 22, the suspect was not located and is still outstanding. No further details are available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
