Shortly after 7:45 p.m., a resident in the area said he heard the crash from the backyard of his home, which straddles the scene of the crash, and called 911.

Firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers responded to an area west of the intersection of Pico Canyon Road and Whispering Oaks Road at 7:49 p.m.

Upon arrival, units discovered a severely damaged chain-link fence over a storm drain, just south of the roadway.

After further inspection, it was determined a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck flew off the road and landed inside a culvert under the roadway.

The driver was freed by firefighters and rushed to a trauma center in unknown condition.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident, however, California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the crash.
