Firefighters were on the scene with an adult male patient, who initially was reported to have fallen into a construction trench with debris up to his chest, according to LAFD. Firefighters found the patient unresponsive and was determined deceased at the scene.

The rescue operation then transitioned to a recovery operation. LAFD Urban Search and Rescue crews responded to the scene as well as the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAFD said that the incident did not “appear” to be a city employee but instead, a private business construction operation, however, this has not yet been confirmed.
