Off-Duty LAPD Officer Killed in 210 Freeway Crash Identified

Los Angeles, CA: The off-duty officer killed in a freeway crash in the city of Glendora early Saturday morning has been identified by the Los Angeles Police Department as Officer Baldemar Sandoval.

Officer Sandoval was on his way home from work when he was involved in a traffic collision on the 210 Freeway, according to LAPD. Sandoval worked in LAPD’s Central Division.

A tweet from LAPD Headquarters on Saturday, showed a framed photo in memoriam of Officer Sandoval.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Officer Sandoval, his Central Area family and the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department during this difficult time,”said Michel R. Moore, Chief of Police. “May God welcome Baldemar home.”

Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle rear-ended a stalled semi truck in the number two lane of the eastbound 210 at Grand Avenue just before 2:30 a.m., Apr. 15.

The officer’s body was extricated from the vehicle, covered with a United States flag then transported by coroner’s van to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office in Downtown Los Angeles around 6:50 a.m.
