PHOENIX, Ariz., Mar. 16 (KNN) — Phoenix police officers and fire crews responded to the area of 32nd Street and Willetta Street around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, after a 911 caller stated an individual fell into the Arizona Grand Canal.

Officers arrived at the scene and located an adult female victim in the water to the west of 32nd Street. The individual was clutching onto a submerged shopping cart.
Quick thinking officers retrieved a tow strap from a nearby patrol vehicle and rushed to the victim’s aid.
The tow strap was tossed down to the victim and multiple officers then proceeded to drag the victim up the canal bank, out of harm’s way.
Fire crews arrived and evaluated the victim at the scene, who refused further medical attention.
