Second Alarm Fire Damages Frame Gallery Business in Upland

Upland, San Bernardino, CA: A blaze tore through a frame gallery business early Wednesday morning prompting the fire department to request assistance from other agencies.

Upland police officers and the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a commercial building fire on the 500 block of North Mountain Avenue in the city of Upland around 2:42 a.m., May 3.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 30,000 square foot, two-story commercial building with heavy smoke and fire showing. Crews initiated an offensive fire attack while searching for potential victims and vertical ventilation, according to San Bernardino County Fire.

A fire quickly grew to second alarm status due to the size of the fire and occupancy complexity, the fire department reported.

The fire continued to rage despite firefighting efforts, causing crews to battle the flames defensively with multiple ladder trucks and hose lines, according to SBCFD.

Firefighters shifted their priorities to keeping the the fire from spreading to adjacent occupancies, according to the fire department. Multiple structural collapses occurred during the firefight.

The fire was brought under control in approximately two hours, reported SBCFD. The building sustained heavy damage, however, multiple exposed buildings were saved by firefighters.

No injuries were reported. The fire remains under investigation by the fire department.

Multiple streets remained closed to traffic in the area at the time of the fire.
