Solo Vehicle Crash into Power Pole Plunges Neighborhood into Darkness

Northridge, Los Angeles, CA: A single-vehicle crash into a power pole late Thursday night, plunged a neighborhood into darkness and temporarily trapped the driver due to downed power lines.

Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to reports of a traffic collision with a trapped victim around 11:50 p.m., Mar. 23, in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Northridge.

When firefighters arrived, they found one car into a power pole with a female driver who could not exit her vehicle because of live, downed power lines near the vehicle.

Firefighters determined it was safe for the driver to exit the vehicle and guided her to an ambulance to be evaluated.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power were alerted of the incident and were due to respond.

Power was out in the area for an unknown amount of time. It was also unknown how many homes/buildings the outage affected.
