The crash occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 17500 block of Sierra Highway near the College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus.

Arriving first responders found a commercial van and a passenger sedan, both severely crushed. At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is being handled by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. It’s unclear at this time if the victim was a student at the school.

The Signal, Santa Clarita Valley’s #1 local news source, reported Friday that a female killed in the crash has been identified as 18-year-old Sinai Barraza and was the driver of the Toyota sedan that collided with an air-conditioning van.

According to The Signal, the van was traveling northbound on Sierra Highway, and Barraza’s sedan was traveling southbound, when, for unknown reasons, Barraza’s car crossed over into the northbound lanes, which caused the van to hit her head-on. Barraza was the sole occupant of the sedan and was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the van was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries; however, his condition is stable, according to The Signal.
