Bakersfield, Kern County, CA: A fire escalated to third alarm status as it burned an apartment complex, threatened nearby structures and firefighters searched for possible victims.

At approximately 5:12 p.m. June 29, Kern County and Bakersfield City Fire departments responded to multiple reports of an apartment fire on the 3900 block of Oregon Street in the city of Bakersfield.
Kern County Fire Department reported that as additional information was received, the call was escalated to a “second alarm” fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered one multi-unit, multi-story apartment complex well involved with fire, according to Kern County FD. Additionally, the fire had spread to another identical complex nearby and toward several homes behind the apartments.
It was reported to firefighters that individuals may be inside the buildings on fire. The call was escalated to a “third alarm” when firefighters were assigned to search for victims in the extreme amount of fire activity, according to the department. No one was found in the search.
The department reported that it took 47 firefighters less than 45 minutes to knock down the fire.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
