LAPD Patrol Vehicle Struck by Suspected DUI Driver, Officer Transported to Hospital

MID-CITY, LOS ANGELES, Mar. 23 (KNN) — A traffic collision occurred Friday night in the Mid-City neighborhood at the intersection of South La Cienega Boulevard and West 18th Street that left at least one LAPD officer injured.

At approximately 10:39 p.m., a female officer from the LAPD’s West Los Angeles unit called for assistance, reporting that her patrol vehicle had been involved in a collision.

An SUV rear-ended the LAPD patrol vehicle, which was then pushed into the back of another police vehicle, causing a chain reaction that ultimately involved a Ford Focus. Additional units quickly responded to the scene, and at least one officer was transported to a nearby hospital in a patrol vehicle.

The SUV’s driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The condition of the officers involved remains unknown at this time.

The LAPD’s South Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
