Wrong-Way Driver on 710 Freeway Captured by CHP

Long Beach, Los Angeles County, CA: A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter located and helped guide California Highway Patrol officers to a wrong-way driver on the 710 Freeway early Monday morning, culminating in his arrest.

Calls to 911 started pouring into CHP’s call center shortly before 2 a.m., Mar. 6, regarding a sedan traveling in the fast lane northbound in southbound lanes on the 710 Freeway.

L.A. County Sheriff’s helicopter was in the area and quickly located the vehicle continuing northbound at Del Amo Boulevard going the wrong way.

CHP South Los Angeles officers started a traffic break ahead of the wrong-way vehicle.

CHP units and the vehicle met up with each other under the 91 Freeway interchange, where the suspect vehicle stopped.

The driver was quickly arrested and CHP officers took control of the vehicle, turning it back the right way before driving it off the freeway for further investigation.

Numerous wrong way drivers have been reported across Los Angeles County on several freeways, with this call being about the 4th wrong-way call of the night.

The suspect in this incident has an address in West Covina and is believed to have been trying to head home from Long Beach.
